Mari Sandoz Wacipi set for Nov. 23

<p>CHADRON &ndash; The Chadron State College&rsquo;s Mari Sandoz Wacipi, or powwow, will be Saturday, Nov. 23 in the Student Center Ballroom.</p> <p>A free lunch will provided at noon and the Grand Entry of dancers will begin at 1 p.m.</p> <p>According to event organizer, Dr. Dave Nesheim, wacipi is the Lakota word for dance, and the event is a celebration of Lakota food, dance, song, life, and culture.</p> <p>Admission and parking are free and everyone is welcome.</p> <p>Kansas and Kyal Middletent of Lower Brule, South Dakota, will make presentations about traditional Lakota bow making at 2 p.m. and the Lakotas as Star People at 3 p.m.</p> <p>&ldquo;Whether you choose to enjoy the lunch, come and listen to the Middletent brothers&rsquo; storytelling, sit back and enjoy the virtuoso performances of the drum groups and dancers, decide to get out into the dance circle, or enjoy a little bit of everything, you will surely have a good time at the Mari Sandoz Wacipi,&rdquo; Nesheim said.</p> <p>To learn more, contact Nesheim at <a href="mailto:dnesheim@csc.edu">dnesheim@csc.edu</a> or 402-525-6202.</p>
